UNESCO Offers Free Online Course to Combat Incresed Climate Disinformation

To address the worsening climate crisis and the rising spread of disinformation, UNESCO and its Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) have introduced a free online course. This course aims to help citizens develop media and information literacy skills to combat climate dis- and misinformation.

In particular, the course aims to:

  • Improve comprehension of climate change and highlight the value of identifying and trusting evidence-based data and scientific facts.

  • Develop critical thinking and fact-checking abilities to assess climate information from various sources.

  • Promote media and information literacy among citizens and motivate them to support informed and constructive climate action.

The course combines real-world cases, interactive activities, and a variety of disciplinary voices on the subject.
